Bruce Barber

Bruce Barber is a painter specializing in watercolor. His interest in art started with classes in Bennett High School, where he graduated in 1943. During World War II, his art career began as a staff artist and map maker for the 41^st Division Reconnaissance Troop in the Pacific Theater. After the war he studied at the Albright Art School, where he majored in graphic arts and graduated in 1949. His instructors included Seymour Drumlevitch, Philip Elliott, Virginia Cuthbert, Charles Ryder, Edward Kaspar and Chet Moore.  Watercolor became his favorite medium.  Barber’s artwork was shown in annual Western New York exhibitions at the Albright Art Gallery in 1948, 1949, 1950 and 1952. He was a member of the Patteran Society from 1954 to 1957. After retiring from a business career in 1990, he began painting again, often finding subjects in his travels in Europe. Much of his work has been purchased for individual collections, along with exhibitions held in Buffalo at Dana E. Tillou Ltd. Fine Arts and the Art Dialogue Gallery.
