Brian Porter is a representational painter and sculptor whose work "revolves around shared experiences of humanity" (Porter). He aims to create works which people can identify with on multiple subjective levels. "I create empathy in subject and content in combination with a beautiful craft of wet and dry media. Conceptual themes involve issues of man vs man and the voyeur" (Porter).
Subjects in Porter's works are depicted "gazing, staring, [and] recounting." By employing representational methods to construct contemporary narratives, Porter's "powerful images lead to universally shared responses and experience....The work displays the quiet expressive qualities of the medium and the many connections among the viewers" (Porter).
Brian Porter was born in Buffalo, New York, and has returned to the region after living in Pennsylvania and New York City. He recieved his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the State Univerisity of New York at Buffalo, and his Masters of Fine Arts from the New York Academy of Art. Porter is a full-time artist who completes commissions as well as his own creative works. Several of Porter's commissioned sculptures are situated at the Buffalo Military and Navel Park.
