Brian Larson Clark

Brian Larson- Clark is a Buffalo-based media, installation and performance artist. In 2003, he earned his BFA in Media Arts Production at SUNY College of Fredonia . In 2010, he received his MFA in the same field at University at Buffalo.

In his work, Clark explores alternative ways to connect people through new technologies while simultaneously challenging their mythic assumptions and histories. He often focuses on the social impact and popular perceptions of emergent technologies–drinking glasses as a technological means for social interaction, or solar panels reverse-engineered to become both receptors and disseminators of visual data. Through the misusing, disassembling, and reassembling, his work questions current social paradigms and aims to develop richer and more meaningful ways for us to interact with each other and the technology that surrounds us. Clark is a founding member of Trans Empire Canal Corporation (TECC), a Buffalo-based collective responsible for the Burchfield Penney Art Center’s 2014 multi-year project “Cultural Commodities: As Exhibition in Four Phases,” informally referred to as the “art barge.”

“I am interested in exploring new ways in which we can connect people through technology…Through the use and misuse of popular platforms, and through the combination and recombination of emergent and existent means of communication, we can develop richer and more meaningful ways to interact.” [2]
