Bill Donohue is a writer who was born and raised in South Buffalo, N.Y. He attended St. Bonaventure University in Buffalo and the University of Louvain in Belgium. Upon graduating he became a Catholic priest in 1964 and served for 10 years before leaving the priesthood and marrying in 1974.
Donohue was named New York State Commerce Commissioner in 1983 by Governor Mario Cuomo and later worked as a community change agent in Flint, Michigan, from 1988 to 2000. He retired in 2006. He and his wife Maryalice (nee Palmer) live in Clarence, N.Y.; they have 6 daughters and 9 grandchildren.
