Arthur E. Smith (1917-2012) was a painter working mostly with watercolors. Arthur graduated from Kenmore Senior High School and continued on to receive a B.S. Degree in art education from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1939, a Masters degree in Education from Cornell University in 1947, and a Doctorate in Education from Syracuse University in 1952. Arthur and his wife Ruth moved to Minnesota in 1949 where he joined the Art Department at the University of Minnesota. Arthur Directed the Tweed Museum of Art at UMD and retired in 1980. After his retirement he continued working with watercolors and being active in his community.
