Ana Maria Hidalgo

Ana Maria Hidalgo is an artist native to Chile, and works in a variety of media including oil, pen and ink, textiles, and watercolor. She obtained a B.A. degree from the University of Chile in Santiago, and her M.A. in American and Puerto Rican Studies from the University of Buffalo in 1978. Hidalgo was also an assistant visiting professor and coordinator in Puerto Rican Studies, American Studies, and Women’s Studies at the University of Buffalo from 1978-1985. Her work is influenced by the feminist movement and South American Indian spiritualism, as well as Latin American issues. She considers her watercolors more personal; images and ideas that root from deep feelings of who she is as a woman, and a Latin-American woman. A struggle to capture relationships between landscape, culture, and the forces bigger than ourselves.  Hidalgo has taught and exhibited art extensively throughout Chile and the United States in the past.
