“Quills – A response to Alisha Brunelli”

A 9 inch by 12 inch do-over unfolds with humiliation
the blank stare of the eggshell toned paper posed intimidation
works well with colored pastels, not quite so much with quills
deep diving into to an inkwell where ideas suffocate without gills
the scale steadies, the wind stills while cardinals ponder their next note
the paper settles, the mind races, the hand quickens it's pen stroke
smoke bellows from parted lips as the subconscious mind is ablaze
charring human imperfection, now naked in thought on centerstage
