“Origins – A response to Michael Mulley”
The rocks drawn out
of the primordial soup
were gray and formless
a pre-thought
reality forged from abstraction
with unearthly patience
That they exist, the only constant
Whose hand, or what,
lifted them into being
is something the gods like to claim
but in all the stories
humans uncovered color
in suffering and delight
Gods have no quarrel with time
draw breaths to move mountains
without a thought
noticing is a whim
Mortals organize themselves into moments
indigo calligraphy chartreuse tears
When all was nascent
a black canvas
humans reached into the depths
uncovered electric seeds lapis leaves
impossibly saturated, technicolor seas
