Dennis Maher’s installation in the 2010 collaborative exhibition, Beyond/In Western New York 2010: Alternating Currents, impressively filled the central portion of the Burchfield Penney Art Center’s East Gallery. It inspired the Albright-Knox Art Gallery to offer him a residency and gallery installation in 2012, resulting in Maher’s launch of The Fargo House, essentially completed in 2014, but continuing to be an organic work in progress. With it, he “aims to invigorate the collective imagination of place through built projects, workshops, exhibitions and residency opportunities. More recently, Maher produced A Second Home, in Pittsburgh at Mattress Factory’s 19th-century row house at 516 Sampsonia Way. In addition to his own collaborative projects, Maher is clinical assistant professor in the department of architecture, in the School of Architecture and Planning at SUNY at Buffalo and teaches in Portugal during the summer. —NW
