Roberto Muffoletto is the founder and first director of The Center for Exploratory and Perceptual Arts (CEPA) in Buffalo. A nephew of Joe Orffeo, Dr. Muffoletto has been an international educator on campuses here and abroad, and in online formats. In 2017, he retired from the College of Education at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina as an Associate Professor of Educational Technology and Media Studies and Coordinator for the Educational Media Graduate Online Program in New Media and Global Education. He established and operates an online gallery, publisher, workshop, and blog site called VASA, with offices in Vienna.
This work depicts Pat Baumgartner on the Maid of the Mist boat ride to the base of Niagara Falls. She was an educator and publisher of the journal, Camera Lucida. At the time, she was married to Muffoletto and he thought this was the most beautiful photograph of her he had ever made. After they divorced, he destroyed the negative and gave the print to Anthony Bannon. —NW/AB
