Artist Statement: Mo is drawn to the power of photography for the intellectual and philosophical nature of the medium. Mo believes that art in whatever form should be there to explore and look under the surface of what is visible. Pulling this thinking towards the project, Mo was drawn to the vibrant colors and layers of meaning he found in exploring LeRoi’s work. This mixed with the need to practice the craft of photography to create a series of images that utilized found imagery from American History textbooks, Mo extracted images that spoke to him and then crumbled them into balls and approached them like traditional still life photography. He then used Photoshop to layer and create images that were both vibrant and textured with historical and cultural meaning. The result is a bright and hazy dream that elicits the viewers own historical narrative or conflicts.
