Requiem - an act or token of remembrance.
In the later stages of her life, artist Catherine Catanzaro Koening created Requiem #2. In this mysterious drawing, the artist seems to be reminiscing about something she is missing. As people grow older, we tend to reflect on life and what means the most to us. Standing and looking directly into the artwork can provoke the feelings of a daydream. The soft lines, neutral colors and beauty of the woman's form make it feel as though we are following in the same footsteps, joining her in this fantasy.
For Kids:
Have you ever had a really fun dream? Maybe you could fly, breathe underwater or talk to animals! Do you remember all your dreams? As people get older, they often look back on their memories making it feel as though it might all be a dream. In this drawing the artist is trying to remember something she has lost. What do you think she is dreaming? What do you think the veil could mean?
