On this occasion I was cross-country skiing in the late afternoon. I was enjoying
the warm light, the stillness and the rhythm and movement of my body and skis. Gliding
down a long slope I felt flickering light and shadow on my face. This was caused by the
sunlight and aspen and spruce cast shadows. I enjoyed it enough that I climbed the hill
and skied down again. The third time I stopped partway down and pulled out my
sketchbook and recorded the experience.
