Alexander O. Levy (1881-1947)

Levy was also a leading portrait painter in Buffalo, an area which offered artists more security, since portraits were usually commissioned rather than speculatively created. One of these is his Portrait of Mrs. Donald Weir, painted in 1923. She appears not dissimilar from the subjects of some of his fanciful woks—lovely, small featured, with slender, attenuated arms, and with a shy yet slightly seductive appearance, and with her blond hair piled high, similar in some ways to the figure in Womanhood Glorified of the same year.
