At the turn of the 20th century, Prague had one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe and during this time in the nearby town of Dvůr Králové, my ancestors built a synagogue in which their community would worship. The “Dvůr Králové Temple” was erected in 1891, thrived along with its congregants, but ultimately was desecrated by the Nazis in 1939, forgotten and neglected by the Communist Czechoslovakian regime that followed the war, and finally demolished in 1966. My glass and steel composition is a window without a building. It references the stained glass windows of that lost temple and is printed with my reimagined assemblage of Carl Breuer & Sons company tablecloth designs.
