“Crow Hello is a collection of correspondence and poems welcoming love and grief,” writes artist Olivia Long. “Guests are invited to thumb through, flip over, and physically engage with the collection. The correspondence and poems are obscured and fractured by the layering of paper. Sentences are removed from a timeline and direct attention towards the fragmented words of connection between friends struggling with addiction and sexual assault trauma.”
“The correspondence is sourced from emails between my father, Andrew Long, and his English teacher and poet, Frances Driscoll, after they reconnected in 2013. The notes dip into conversations throughout their months of relearning of and getting to know one another. In this last year of Andrew’s life, he began to write poetry again, aided by the rekindled relationship with Frances. In the wake of his suicide death in early 2014, the collection is one of ephemeral ties to his life and person. Crow Hello is one means of sharing his words, love, and grief.” – Artist Olivia Long
