This study for Mid-Summer Caprice features a Great Spangled Fritillary (Speyeria Cybele):
Wingspan 3–3 3/4" (75-95 mm). Wings above orange-brown, marked with many black spots. Fore wings below paler with brownish-black markings and a few silvery-yellow spots. Hind wings darker below basally with silvery spots partly edged in black and a tawny band separating 2 outmost rows of silver spots. Females have bolder dark markings on wings above. Caterpillar is velvety black with 6 rows of branching orange-red and black spines. Habitat: Moist open woods and meadows.
