Projector D
----55”-----> ß----3’---à
ß-----8’-------
Four Nomm Bell + Howell projectors with “Eterna”
loop cartridge systems for continuous projection
of four different 5-6 minute long color films.
“Realistic” external speakers situated under screen
images. 1000 cps tone sound signals in synchronous
relation with black frames in films. The loops
recycle in constantly carrying relationships.
The discrete separation of image A/B from C/D
prevents, as did arrangement I, lateral (phi phenomena)
“movement” across the span of the piece. The
inverse relation of proportion A:B to proportion C:D
creates a tense imbalance since C:D is, in itself,
highly kinetic and its colors are quite distinct whereas
A:B pulsates more than “moves” Internally and,
its large overlapped/interfaced area, with its richness
of hue dialectic as in C:D. by altering the
internal color structure of the A and B foulage, making
them more kinetic by doubling the duration of their black
frames, the A:B system might begin to balance with
the larger area, more dynamic C:D system.
