CATHERINE JANSEN
(July 23-August 19)
Photographer, Catherine Jansen, will assemble a journal o her residency at Artpark with pages made from bed sheets. Each day, park visitors will receive Polaroid cameras equipped with a special type of film which produces an instantaneous negative; they will aso collect objects to be included in the journal. At the end of the day, the objects and negatives will be arranged on a piece of clear Plexiglas to form a huge negative, which will be printed, using natural sunlight as the light source, onto the specially treated bed sheets. Additional cloth items will be sewn on the pages in quilt-like fashion, and the work of artist and visitors will become a 28 pace document of the events and physical surroundings during Jansen’s visit.
Catherine Jansen studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield, Michigan, and the Tyler School of Art in Rome and Philadelphia. She has exhibited works similar to her Artpark piece at the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York City. She frequently exhibits her works in the Philadelphia area, and has been reviewed in numerous publications and books.
