NANCY HOLT
(June 18-July 8)
Nancy Holt is one of four artists returning from last season. Last year along the Niagara River Gorge she created a work based on constellation Hydra – a piece that was featured this winter in Arts magazine. This season, she will be interviewing the residents of Lewiston for a videotape on the Village and the activities during her stay at Artpark.
Nancy Holt was educated at Jackson College (Tufts University) and has exhibited her works, she has employed heavy earth-moving vehicles to form giant land-sculptures. One of her most impressive works is located at Missoula Ranch, Montana, where she fashioned a circle, forty feet in diameter, from galvanized steel and cement pipe. Within the circle she has placed viewers which present observers with selected scenes ranging from 150 feet to 10 miles.
Her work has attracted considerable attention, and she has been the subject of numerous article and reviews in such publications as the Village Voice, Artforum, Art News, and On Site.
