..talk a good organization, but the proof is in the pudding, and from where I sit I don't see anything to make me have any more confidence in the Toronto group than in the Mtl. group If Micheal Snow speaks well of the Toronto co-op, then that's something to take into account, of course, but it's also true than Snow is in Toronto, and undoubtedly he, being who he is, gets the best possible service from them.
So, I suppose the upshot of all this is, I'm sorry to say, that you are probably wise not to send more prints up here for the time being. Sorry to say--because I, and no doubt a few other people in Canada, would really like to have more of your work available, and not have to go through all the fuss and added expense (and the increase in expense is considerable) of ordering from the U.S. I especially miss the S's film, which I think is a magnificent work--one of the very few films--"experimental" or otherwise --that begins to inspire awe.
Perhaps it's worth nothing, finally, that Brakhage has continued to send more and more prints to the Montreal co-op. Now, whether it's a purely quixotic gesture, a gesture of blind faith, or shrewd intuition that things are suddenly going to improve chez Dimitri et Calude, I don't know. But he seems to be the only important american filmmaker who has continued to treat the Mtl. co-op as a going, and reasonably productive concern.
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas and best wishes for the new year!
regards,
Bill
