Dear Peter,
I am answering your communications of 29 April, 24 May and 12 July—at long last and with apologies—and acknowledging our telephone conversation last week.
I am grateful for the copy of Structural Film Anthology which Malcolm LeGrice brought to me, and am sorry that he and Paul Sharits, it seems, took it upon themselves to translate my enthusiasm, in principle, to have you visit, into a commitment for a definite date in early November which is impossible! Paul has urged me to invite you in several memos, which I have just reread, but non mention a specific date.
At any rate, it is now the understanding of the Center for Media Study of the State University of new York at Buffalo ($200.), the non –profit foundation Media Study/Buffalo ($150.) and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery ($150.) that you will screen and discuss your films—C/O/N/S/T/R/U/C/T, Condition of Illusion and Clouds—at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in our Evenings for New Film series on Thursday, November 18, at 8:00 p.m. The $500 combined fee includes the honorarium for appearance, rentals and travel. We will provide room accommodations.
I have a copy of your bio/filmography but could urgently use—as soon as possible—a picture of you, still frames from your films, short descriptions of them, and anything else you might think useful. Later, I’ll need to know your projection needs and any special instructions, and your travel plans.
Paul Sharits, Hollis Frampton (and Tony Conrad, I hope) will be visiting with you in late August and will carry my best wishes to you, Malcolm and your colleagues.
Sincerely,
Gerald O’Grady
Director
