The other works in the exhibition are all related to Shartis’s films, in that they are either filmstrips separated from the context of the film itself, creating a compelling visual experience on their own, or are preparatory drawings and studies for the films.
Dream Displacement and Other Projects is complemented by a retrospective showing of all Sharits’s films and by a series of lectures by leading filmmakers and critics. Details on the screenings and the lectures are given on the enclosed sheets.
An extensively illustrated, thirty-two page catalogue with five color plates is available. It contains an essay by Rosalind Krauss and a dialogue between Paul Sharits and Linda L. Cathcart.
The exhibition was made possible by a grant by the New York State Endowment for the Arts, a Federal agency, and the film screenings and lecture series are co-sponsored by the Center by Media Study, SUNYAB.
The exhibition is on view through October 31, 1976.
