As evidence of his promise as a designer, Burchfield was awarded several prizes for his school work, the first of which was for this Thanksgiving- themed poster. Boldly illustrated, this design seems to bear stylistic connection to both World War I propaganda posters created by various artists years later, as well as modern poster design and illustration. While typography was not a primary focus of Burchfield’s as a student, this poster is an example of his ability to utilize it quite effectively.
