Dear Burchfield:
I am pleased that you should like the water colors that I did in Mexico. I was very doubtful about most of them, while in Mexico, but Rehn greeted them with such enthusiasm that their stock went up considerably with me. I will say though that I always thought pretty well of the one you like most, of the mountains, which I call “Sierra Madre at Monterrey”.
We found it just as limiting to be without a car in Mexico as it is here, but I took what was near at hand and did the best I could with it. There are very wonderful saw tooth mountains at Monterrey and between there and Saltillo, as fine as I have seen in our west, although not very high, perhaps under seven thousand feet.
I saw your show at Rehns [sic] a number of times and continued to like the tree lined road, the one of the bridge and the large one of the wheat field. I liked the others too, but these above all.
Very sincerely,
E. Hopper
