A warm windy day, and pleasant to be out in the yard. Our trip has made our yard seem especially nice, but then too, C has been busy all week mowing and trimming. She has cleaned it up to the back end of the pavilion.July 27 (Sun.); Warm and very humid—; P.M. Hearing rain with some lightning & thunder. Impossible to listen to concert over the radio (the Sibelius Second was scheduled) on account of the lightning static).; Late PM.—B & I to Hippodrome to see the English made film version of Dickens’ “Great Expectations” A superbly done picture,—excellent settings, fine acting, thrilling and dramatic—a memorable experience.July 28—Dream:; Of being in a woods, and coming upon a picture by Hopper which he had just completed (It seemed as if he was “summering” in this woods and had rented a small portion of it, to which he confined himself—There were several large oaks surrounding a small clearing). The picture I thought was superbly done, and made all that I had been doing lately seem weak
