P.M. painting all afternoon—the willow tree, Cottrell’s yard (which was flooded, and the row of poplars behind. Robins on all sides.The hepaticas in the house opened today— Evening—B & I to view the remains of Mr. Herpin killed the other morning when his car ran into a trailer truck. It was very sad. Only 44, he leaves behind his widow, and two boys, Gunther (not yet 21) and a small boy, 4 years old. To Sally’s to discuss their plans for moving Saturday. They are partly packed. Cathie in, and we have ice-cream and cupcakes. Late evening—take car to Hank’s, who is going to straighten the fender at the shop tonight— A fine mild evening—a breeze from the S.W.

* We heard the first “peepers” on William St tonight. (Mart says she & Cathie heard them on Mineral Springs Rd. Tues. (March April—8) Apr. 11 (Friday)— A.M. very warm & windy (70o) later 77o at midmorning. * Hepaticas open in the yard. * Chickweed in the back lot in bloom. To city line for meat & groceries.
