Saturday I had a letter from F.R. about the pictures. He was enthusiastic about them all, except the "Lavender + Old Lace" - My own feeling about this picture is perhaps that it is "cold" - well executed, but lacking in soul. Frank merely said "I have not yet digested the picture" which means he has reservations.
Yesterday - a mild moist day - wind from the east during an overcast sky thru which the sun only sent a fragmentary gleam now and then - at times a fine rain. A wonderful mellow feel to the east - the leaves falling, and those already down matted with rain, and glowing with color. In the evening, the songs of a few green grasshopper.
Wednesday night B + I to a movie, and to Lorenzo's for dinner - both of which we enjoyed thoroughly.
Today the rain from the east continues, more steady, and with the sky darker. Walked to the P.O. - the fallen leaves underfoot, glowing brilliantly with the wet, seem like fallen sunshine, and imparts to the otherwise gloomy day a feeling of light and warmth and gayety that is very heart-warming.[i]
