114. caused by physical weariness, and reactions from working so hard on the pictures; and to the absence of Bertha, who with Catherine was on a (CD) to Ohio (her absence only vividly confirmed what I always knew, that I have grown so dependent on her comfort and encouragement, and companionship, that merely a brief separation gives me a "lost" feeling that I cannot overcome) - Whatever it was, I felt that my pictures were trivial, and I wondered why I was sending them away. Only the return of Bertha, who did her best to lift me out of the slough, has renewed my faith in and courage to do my work, and I now seem ready to tackle the second lot of pictures.
During this month, Mary Alice has returned from Fredonia - having decided to give up the idea of teaching music (and wisely - for she felt that it was making her hate music) - She was ill with the grippe and a cough for a week or so after her return, and was in a depressed mood. But having made a contact with the Curtirs Factory to go to their school to learn to work on airplanes, she is in better spirits.
While Bertha was in Ohio (8th to 12th) - we had perfect weather - clear rich blue skies, and an air just cool enough to have tang - On Saturday we all went out to the woods east of Marilla and had a happy time.
On Tuesday evening all but three youngest to hear Kreisler. It is not pleasant to hear an artist such as he is in his break-up period. - in fact it was agonizing - only near
