104. were doing. I walked the full length of it, without seeing them. Suddenly came the noise of fireworks being set off at the racetrack - I hurried in that direction, for this was the one thing I could really enjoy; on the way I met the youngsters coming from one of the "rides" (a rocket train) - we all went together toward the race track. The show ended just as we arrived.
After a little more wandering around, and eating more stuff, we went home.[i]
Aug. 27 - Thurs.
P.M. B + I to Buffalo to see again "Mrs. Miniver" Even better than the first time.
A few errands - Bertha's watch - Art's front wheel. B went home on the four o'clock bus, while I went out to get the wheel. At Clinton before I got on a bus, I called Bertha and asked her to meet me at the end of the car-line. When I got there, as she has not come yet, I decided to start walking. However, when I had gotten as far as Harlem, I realized something was wrong. I guessed that she had gone to the Seneca St city line, and so I started back towards the Clinton car line knowing she would eventually come there. Hardly had I started, when she came along.[ii]
Aug 31 - (Mon)
All day on "The Great Hill" working mostly on the foreground and filling out the unpainted area in a "preliminary manner" - The work went well, and I think will be finished for this Fall's showing. [iii]
