96. quently. And on account of this I believe I became more acutely sensitive to the scene around me.
I drove home by going straight westward to the Springville Road and thence by way of Chestnut Ridge. Here I parked a moment by the road, turned off my lights, and listened to katy-did chorus, which was going full and strong, (CD) to the woods nearby, with their black cave-like interiors a mysterious, sinister quality, far in the southwest, the moon had become a tarnished old gold color, in a thick brownish violet sky.[i]

Working on frames - I enlisted Arthur's help on removing paint from old frames, which he did very well.[ii]

In the mail - card from rationing board that I will receive a B-book, entitling me to about 4 or 5 gals more a week, which insures that I can take some trips out sketching.
Morning - on frames -
P.M. To the Allen Rd. country again. I had in mind the painting of a woods "cave", but yesterdays storm had cleared the air, and the sunlight, being more brilliant, seemed to change the effect I had noticed on Wednesday. I made a few ineffectual pencil studies and took a walk northwards along the woods edge, thru a pasture. There is a peculiar pleasure in walking over the hard close-cropped turf of an august pasture -
