33. of my water-color (which he is publishing as a silk screen print) until next week - and Watson (“American Artist”) is busy. We make a date for lunch on Thursday.
To gallery – pleasant to see Frank – He has luncheon engagement with Elizabeth Sparhawk Jones, for whom he is giving a show in March. He insisted I go along. She paints water colors on a very fine canvas, with charming effects resulting. To show an interest I asked her all about it, where she got the canvas etc – To which she gave ambiguous replies, and seemed annoyed. I did not discover why, until the next day, when Frank with some embarrassment and diffidence, told me she was all upset over the possibility of my using her method, and asked me if he could tell her I would not do it. Of course I told him to put her mind at ease. Poor lady! As if exclusiveness of material or method made for uniqueness or originality in art![i]
Feb. 17 + 18 – The first Guggenheim meeting. Robmson did not come this time. There seems to be less matured, and lower quality in painting. I was surprised to see Blair and Cameron Booth had applied – both made a favorite impression on the jury.

After each day, to gallery, + evening spent with Frank - usually going to a movie – (the first night with Geo. Olds + his son to see “Woman of the year”-)
As we were leaving the Guggenheim jury on the second day, Young and Beal had been talking about some art club dinner which
