AM. To elevators to get atmosphere & studies.
The evening before I had asked Brook to come out today if he had time, and regretted it this morning. So on the way in I called up & said I would be busy for the afternoon.
It was too warm for me to get the real flavor of the lake, altho, after I had made some studies & went over to look out over the harbor, I got that feeling of the wideness & freedom of the world of water - the sun beating down on the lake.
April 28, 1938-
The last two days spent in looking at & dreaming about the Elevators picture, and puttering in the garden at times. The hot sun, shining from a clear blue sky is stupefying; everything is rushing out into leaf & bloom. It seems like late May.
A dream last night.
We had a new home on a bare round hill; to the south west was the Salem country as it appears from the top of the “Dutchman’s” Hill, and on it was a group of farm buildings lit up in the horizontal light of the northeast Dawn of late June. I wish I could reveal some of the wonder of this scene.
Again - it was early morning; I was out by the garage, which contrary to fact was lying east & west, with doors at both ends; it had rained torrents in the night, and the floods had washed sand and
