of dark hollows, the exploring of which I postpone till some other time. To main road, thence northward thru ChestnutRidgePark, reveling in the beauty of the landscape and the powerful wind at my back. Here I walked with pure physical enjoyment, the wind impelling one on, making me walk with long rapid strides- First bluebird, a heavenly sight, one that is always new to me.
Nearing Orchard Park – Cone willows by the side of a broiling stream – arrive in town, tired and cold – coffee and pie in a lunch room – the radio going – is Chopin program – I go outside and stand in the storm awhile, than come back in to get warm. Bus leaves at4:50, a 45 min. wait –
Stand in corner a long time it seems. A relief when I am sitting at last in the warm bus, speeding over white landscape.

To Springbrook country painting –
A marvelous day out of Eternity – Not for many months have I had such pure unalloyed pleasure in being outdoors and painting.
A clear brilliant blue sky with strong warm sun – Great patches of snow glare blindingly – Take bus to East Seneca – thence walk to Transit road a short piece – ditches full of sparkling running water – cut diagonally over fields after filling my bottle with water out of a swollen brook – There are phenomena this month that we will hardly see for a long time again. These patches of snow – the sun so high I the heavens – toads undaunted singing from pools, - a strange unreality pervades all things.
