a year ago on a trip to Gowanda – one of those days that turned out to be a miss-fire for painting. Now the year has rolled around again, and the plant is growing again in new surroundings.
Sat. Apr. 9, 1932
My birthday – the children got stage-fright this morning and could not say “Happy Birthday” to me. I teased them so that at length M.A. started to cry for vexation, because she could not bring herself to say it.
Early to Buffaloto shop – a cold gray day – wind out of the east – Buy tie for myself (the children’s gift) – to market for vegetables, etc. – get10:15bus home.
Children give me colored drawings.
To taxidermist’s for crow. Mine he had fixed in a “cawing” position – wings lightly spread, mouth open. He had some other crows there that had been ordered and never called for. I bought two more – one sitting, and one with wings fully spread.
Take them to studio – they look fine there and add an atmosphere that I love. The cat, which was by the fire, was terror- stricken at the sight of the birds.
Spend afternoon building cases for the crows.
Evening records (Bertha’s present) comes in the mail. Pieces by Sibelius, Rimsky Korsakov, and Moussorgsky – all somewhat of a disappointment.

A.M. finished one case for birds –
P.M. birthday dinner with decorations and all. Listen to Symphony Concert, tho not with much interest.

A.M. take out the ashes, continue ash walk to rear of studio – take saw to Herbeins to be sharpened, taking Arthur and Catherine along-

Rain commences late afternoon, becoming a steady downpour by night – a spring rain is a beneficent act
