NoontoBuffaloto make notes – a raw brilliant day – along R.R. nearClinton– the day fills me with happiness-
P.M. M.A. to Chi. – on the streetcar on the way home while waiting for signal – automobiles coming up Delaware which was half in shadow cast rectangular reflections of the sun into the dark side of the street –
Signs of Vorfruhling:
The sun eats into the snow in the daytime creating jagged slivers of ice placed at the angle of the sun’s rays;
At sundown the melted snow begins to freeze – an electric tang to the air;
In the morning thin crusted ice crunches under our feet –
The south sides of banks are melted free of snow and have a warm friendly look to them –
All day at work on picture based on notes I made yesterday –
The warm February sun shines on my studio door like a benediction – its warmth and cheerfulness fill me with thought of rambles in the fields and swamps when southern horizons are a glare of white fire.

A friend is coming to see me – he keeps me indoors this afternoon, when I want to be out – a morning of gray skies has given place this afternoon to rich watery blue skies and a star-like sun.

There are modern philosophers show tell us that we should wear our sins lightly, joyously. I wonder if they do themselves! I have tried to, but without success. My morning walk was a slow one with my eyes on the ground. My business was crushing – How to make peace with God?[1]
