of Seneca Creek Road–
A beautiful, perfect winter night – the moon in the full – so bright that the mountains are barely visible – the snow creaks under our feet-
For awhile F – must unburden himself of the troubles and quarrels of his church – I try to get him off the subject by talking about the beauties of the night –
Generally moonlight has a sinister quality but not tonight – it is like another kind of day-
The chatter of the brook that breaks away from the ice just at the road-
Before getting to Blossom – a hill shouts off our view – it glitters under the stark white moon and we can imagine we are at the arctic circle –
Blossom cold and quiet, but most windows with lights – one chimney sends up a thin white silent column of smoke –
On Borden Road we come to great bumps of fog, that gleam white in the moonlight and look like detailed fields of snow – to the west the fog obscures everything and looks like the void of the “end of the world” –
The mist congeals on trees, covering them with hoarfrost –
Home bymidnight, cold and numb –
It is pleasant to find B. waiting for me. She brews a cup of hot tea-
All day at work on “Winter” – getting much accomplished - [1]
