The brilliant steel gray skies of midwinter have come.
Took M.A. to Chiro - the city takes on the harsh bitter romance of winter.
Evening to concert byChicagoorchestra – the principal piece being “Em Heldeneben” by R. Strauss – In spite of the cramped seats, and the length of the piece it appealed to me as a powerful and beautiful thing When the concert was over, a wonderfully beautiful snow was falling, thick flakes with little wind – walk downtown – coffee at one-arm –
The wind increased in the night and brought the first real storm and blizzard of the year – for walk toFrench Rd.bridge and south to Clinton by way of railroad – white drifting snow flying over the earth obscuring the bases of all things – fantastic drifts – the rise to the bridge was almost unendurable for the wind – a pleasure to walk along the long line of cars – here I can hear the roar of the wind and watch the storm while in comparative calm.

The real artist is never at rest - he is always painting, if not actually, with his eye or in his mind – His problems accompany him wherever he goes – to the dining table, to the concert, the theatre, among friends, to his bed. He does not design this – he cannot help it.
Evening to Fr. Rd. bridge – bitterly cold – the sky partially cleared - a new moon silver – Aries is almost overhead, Orion high in the east his sword tipped slightly to the right from a vertical position – the fascinating Pleides in between – such a love for the vastness of the sky and the cold wind filled me that I could barely contain myself- [1]
