A June evening –
The quiet street – green bright harsh green trees stand motionless in the deadened air, - the calm afterglow in the N.W. – people sit around on porches, - battered disappointed personalities – one says “It’s only eight o’clock –“ *
The church bells ring mournfully then dies away and two redbirds commence to sing, feeding the air with sound –
At midnight – a freight train going around a curved(sic) screams frightfully -
*(What an abyss of boredom is indicated by that simple remark)
