Feb 24, 1920 –
A cold new day-
The lines of houses are hard – harshly straight – intense black against the sky –
There is almost no color –
Trees take a cold brownish appearance, the ice & snow is a neutral washed out black gray, - the sky a pale colorless metallic light gray-; under the eaves, windows & porch are heavy black shadows. The sparse swift flying flakes of snow exaggerate it –

The sky a heavy oppressive yellow. Smoke a heavy dull blue hovers upward with diffrantly into the thick air, and collects in a long flat cloud at a certain height – forming a curtain over the dirty black-windowed houses and bluish white ice.
