the backyard, sunning her hair after a washing. Towards noon House, who had been playing tennis down near Ephie’s, came up and said she and Frances were invited to dinner. Frances couldn’t go, so only Louise went. Once Mother came down in the arbor and seeing my occupation,declared that some day I would have so much diary I would not know where to put it.
Dinner was a quiet affair,being composed chiefly of roast beef, sweet potatoes and gravy and talk about an intended visit of Mary Catharine and Aunt Mary who are coming tomorrow after-noon.
After eating I again went out in the arbor. At times I ceased writing to enjoy the afternoon. Crickets kept up a constant singing; the sun was unusually bright and the whistling wind was delightfully cool. I just noticed today how the various wild flowers in my garden are going to seed.
