bet, the first I have ever seen growing wild. On the under side of a milkweed I saw a beautiful larva of the monarch butterfly. Once Jim landed a sunfish, and later a big rook bass, causing no little excitement among us.
Presently Fred and Joe and I set out to get firewood. Near a swampy place I came upon what seemed to be a colony of big black and yellow spiders - a familiar August sight. We had a time getting the fire started for the wood was damp, but presently it was roaring briskly. The sun had gone down and the rosy tint at the horizon blended perfectly into the pale blue sky over head. The fluttering leaves of trees seemed to twinkle in the fading light By the time we had supper ready - which was composed of breath, fried weiner-wurst and baked potatoes - it was dark.
