declared that he wondered if there were any mushrooms. I informed him of our plans for the afternoon and invited him to go along. He showed a little interest but when I said we wouldn’t get back until nine or ten o’clock, he said he said he guessed he wouldn’t go. When I hung up Fred said I was taking a big risk to ask him, but I retorted that I knew Bill well enough.
As we started out Louise said that Joe and I were two fats, Joe and Fred two leans, and added that we looked like a bunch of bacon. Our way led thru Strawn’s Lots to the Painter Road. In the field beyond the Cherry Tree we came upon a patch of filmy beard-grass - beautiful stuff. We left the Painter Road at Posts Woods. In the front here where it was open we found several mushrooms. As we came to Post’s Clover-field, I stopped a moment to take in the view. The tree-covered hills to the north, all conceivable shades of green were rendered beautiful by a thin veil of blue
