to them Uncle Jim called up and said he was coming up to supper. I think it was me who suggested getting ice-cream, and having our apple pie a la’ mode. Then followed a lively argument as to who should go and get the ice-cream and Fred and Ephie were the combined result. While they were gone, Frances and Joe made what little preparation was necessary for supper. Uncle Jim arrived and not long after him came the ice-cream. After supper, which was a jolly affair as usual, we sat around,most of us reading. Tiring of this we clustered in and around the porch swing and sang songs, both popular and old folk-songs until the neighbors all went in their houses. We felt no pangs of conscience however, for it was early and I am sure our singing was not very discordant. Presently Mother arrived and we greeted all of them hilariously.
