it however for the sparrows greatly out numbered him and were indignant in the bargain. I enjoyed the situation hugely and gave mental cheers for the sparrows. However by generally managing to be several places at once the young robins were able to drink in a sort of precarious peace.
What a joy it must be to the birds to come down from a long hot flight to guzzle the water and splash in it until they are dripping wet! And then to come forth and settle quietly in some leafy roost for the night.
The watering place, besides being a boon for the thirsty birds, proved to be the cause of a tragedy. Last Sunday as were eating dinner we were startled by the agonized cries of a robin.
