After supper Fred, Bill and I had planned to go down town. Bill had said he would come over but as it got late, we decided to go for him. We went straight up to Hawley,whereas Bill usually comes by Rose. This was my boneheadedness. As we were passing Foster’s Prudence,who was out on the lawn, heard us mention Bill’s name and informed us that he had just gone past turning up Rose. So we ran all the way back home but found no one. Joe and Mother had left for town when we did. Wondering, we asked Coy’s who were sitting out on the porch if anyone had passed and they answered in the negative. I then conceived the idea that Prudence had been playing a joke on us. So we hiked back again. Prudence however insisted she was not joking and was backed up by her mother who became peeved and said if we didn’t believe them we could go and ask his mother. We did; not because we disbelieved them but to let Bill know thru
