“It shows how much sense you have”, Jim continued.
“How do you expect me to be able to tell fishing poles apart?”
I defended myself.
It was Saturday noon - yesterday in fact tho it seems longer ago - and we were getting ready to go on another fishing trip. While Jim busied himself getting all the fishing tools in shape and together, Fred and I busied ourselves in putting away some dinner. As we were engaged in this delightful occupation Jim came in once and said to me:
“Do you know how to fish, Irish?”
Pretending abject ignorance of the art, I replied innocently.
“How do you know which end to put towards the water.”
“The opposite end, from which the sucker’s on” was Jim’s ready rejoinder and with that he closed the argument, for I was at a loss for a reply
