than if they were the rule. It is the rarity of a thing that enhances its value and beauty. We look up to a great good man because such a thing is rare; A rare flower has a greater beauty than if we saw whole fields of them. And that is why a bluebird is becoming a greater source of wonder in these parts. Several years ago they were almost common in town. Now we may well consider ourselves lucky or very sharpeyed if we see as many as a dozen during a walk in the country. But how their beauty seems to have increased!
A flock of the same kind of birds that puzzled me so yesterday flew up from a field of mountimothy where there had evidently been feeding. I laughed at them for on such a bright wonderful morning could I be downhearted because I did not know what kind they were? I even watched them disappear in the sky with a sort of complacency, when yesterday, their haunting cry stirred all my negative senses to the boiling point and made me at outs with nature merely because I had not a name for them.
