“Is it so you going to get a job in the cost department?” I pretended I knew nothing of it.
Noon finally came. All the way up Depot, Ray reminded me continually, how generous he was to me, and how it had been in his power to spoil my chances for me. Maybe it was all so, but it was better kept to himself. When I got home, Mother was telephoning. I waited impatiently for she must be told first. As she hung up the receiver and turned to me, I told. Her joy was unbounded. She clapped her hands and jumped up and down, ending up with hugging and kissing me. Louise too came running down and kissed me. While I was eating Mother suddenly remarked:
“What did I tell you? I told you something would come, when you went around so blue.” A little later she said: “That was what I wished when I saw the first robin the other day. I used to always wish we would all keep well, but this time I wished you would get your job.”
From the on until this noon, work hasn’t seemed to bad, because I knew it was my last. This morning
