my class pin. At the close of school, Teddy came over and wanted to send at the same time for his. I agreed and he is going to bring his money tomorrow morning.
After school Miss Richards told a few of us that Mr. Lease wanted to see us. We all of us were curious and wild to know what it was all about. When he came in and asked merely Guffal to come out, we thought something was happening, but when I went over to his office, all he wanted was to approve his order for our invitation cards.
Down at work, we were especially quiet tonight. Bill said he was going to ask Gibson for a job for this summer and acted as tho he thought he had a monopoly on it, so I determined to get ahead of him if I could. But I thought I was stung when he came out of stamps and he went up after more, saying at the same time that he was going to ask Gibson. However, when he came back he said he hadn’t seen Gibson, so I went upon some pretext and found Gibson and asked him. He said he didn’t know, because the boat business slacked down in June, but said if there was any chance he would remember me. A little later Bill went up, but by that time Gibson was gone.
